Hike #22 2021
May 22nd, 2021
Time for a little change in scenery. For this hike we headed east to the grasslands of Colorado, and though we don’t go here often, it’s a very fun area to explore! The biggest downside are the long, washboard dirt roads that you need to take to get here, going any faster than 15mph means you’re bouncing all over the place so it can be slow going for a while. The weather when we arrived was cold and windy, which was a little unexpected considering warm weather was predicted. Nevertheless we are always prepared for different weather conditions so we threw on some layers and began our hike at 5:30am.
My favorite part about this hike are the little canyons you can weave through. We stuck to the main trail for a while before turning around and walking through the canyons on our way back.
Despite the gloomy weather we still had a wonderful hike, and we had it all to ourselves! We finished with a total of 3.5 miles and 284 ft of elevation gain.
