Hike #109 2020
December 27
For this quick evening hike we headed to the foothills just outside of Fort Collins. This is one of our go-to trails for when we just want to get out of the house. We knew there wouldn’t be any snow but there are several stream crossings on this trail that typically determine how far we go. Sometimes the stream crossings are frozen over or smaller during this time of year so we can cross with ease, but other times they’re still flowing and deep. Due to Maxi and Zeus’s long coat, any stream crossings we do make them extremely dirty. During the summer we don’t mind hosing them off before going into the house, but hosing them down in the winter is a cold and long process for all involved (attaching a frozen hose to the spigot is another ordeal). Because of this we resort to carrying Maxi and Zeus over the streams to prevent dirty dogs. After carrying them both over the first stream and reaching the second, we decided to turn around. The second stream was pretty deep and would probably soak over the top of our shoes if we walked through it carrying the dogs. If only the dogs knew how to hop from one rock to the other to cross without getting wet. Nevertheless it was a beautiful evening hike and we got out of the house for some fresh air!

For the hour that we were out we hiked just under 2 miles with 154 ft elevation gain.
