Hike 92 2020

September 20 - Finding Fall

September is filled with adventures to the mountains in search of fall colors. I spent hours researching the best places to see the color change within 2 hours of Fort Collins, and we weren’t disappointed with our trail choice. We left home early and were on the trail by 7am allowing us to watch the sun illuminate all the aspens.

The first part of the trail was lined by pine trees mixed with a few bright yellow aspens, but as we hiked farther along the trail, the aspens became more abundant.

Eventually the trail opened up into a meadow and provided views of the surrounding mountains which were covered with aspens.

The aspen groves that we passed through were all in different stages. Some had already dropped their leaves, whereas others were still green, however there were many groves that were at their peak color and it was nothing short of magical to hike through.

We hiked a total of 6.8 miles with 768 ft elevation gain. We will definitely keep this trail in mind for future leaf peeping adventures.
