Hike #105 2020

November 26

Starting from the same trailhead as our previous hike, we set out for yet another snowy adventure. Weather called for a snowstorm rolling in around 1pm, but to our surprise, when we arrived at the trailhead at 7am it was already snowing. This didn’t change our hiking plans at all though, we completed our typical routine of outfitting the dogs with their booties and our several layers of clothing and were out on the trail in no time. This time we took a different route than last week in an attempt to get different mountain views, though due to the snowstorm we knew we wouldn’t see much. We were also the first ones on this trail so we were plowing through a few inches of fresh snow.

While walking through the snow we had come across fresh moose prints weaving on and off the trail. We couldn’t tell just how fresh the tracks were, but we kept our eyes peeled just in case. When we reached the summer trailhead and looked to our right we saw a big bull moose in the field munching on the brush. As we were pretty exposed in this area we made sure to keep a close eye on his body language as he watched us cross in front of him, he didn’t seem too bothered though. Since I didn’t have my zoom lens on my camera I didn’t get an up close shot of the moose but see the picture of it staring at us below!

After the brief excitement of seeing the moose we continued our way up the snowy trail.

As to be expected, the snow clouds covered our big mountain view when we reached our destination. We still took pictures with the snow falling around us.

Before heading back down, the snow clouds moved out of the way just long enough to snap a few shots of the mountains.

We hiked 6.47 miles with 732 feet of elevation gain.
