Hike #25 2021

June 2nd, 2021

The time has come for Bella to head to her new home in California to live with my parents. If you know nothing about Bella and how we got her, she came to us as a breeder release due to being deaf and unable to be used in their breeding program. The breeders only requirement was that she go to a good home and she offered her to my family and we couldn’t resist! Before my parents came out to get her, we spent the past couple months training her, and because she is deaf, we taught her sign language for basic commands which she has picked up on quite quickly. We began to crate train her as well since she struggles with some separation anxiety when left home alone. She would still bark when we left but eventually settled down. We also went on lots of outings into town and/or dog-friendly stores to get her socialized, and she did great! Though she loves meeting people and dogs she didn’t pull or bark in order to get to them which is how we wanted it. She settled in nicely and enjoyed playing with Maxi and Zeus, they would have played constantly if we let them! When California’s travel restrictions were finally lifted my parents drove out here to stay with us for a couple weeks and get to know their new dog. We already miss her but I think she will thoroughly enjoy living with my parents and meeting all the neighborhood dogs and their humans!

For this hike, we went out in the evening for a couple hours to check on the progression of wildflowers on one of the local trails. We only did a couple miles due to my parents being in town, but with this being Bella’s last hike with us for a while, the main picture focus was her! We’ll see you in a couple months, Bella!
